Middle East

We have licensed over 30 plants in the Middle East, spanning Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. With rich natural gas reserves, the area is primed for meeting the world’s urea needs and certain countries, notably Qatar, have expanded hugely in recent years.

Stamicarbon has been at the heart of this expansion in Qatar, licensing three out of five plants of the state’s biggest producer, the Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO). The most recent plant, QAFCO-4, has produced 3,500 mtpd via a single line.

“In Qatar, Stamicarbon technology has been in use since 1979. Thanks to the good experiences with this technology, the decision to go for the same licensor for QAFCO-3 and QAFCO-4 was easily taken. All three Stamicarbon units running in Qatar operate at significantly higher throughputs than designed. The plant availability is amongst the best, worldwide. The cooperation with Stamicarbon has been excellent since the very start.”
