Abstract:
The market for urea fertilizer is growing and the consumption of urea is increasing. Worldwide there are many people needing food, and the main supplier for the food industry is the agricultural business.
Most urea is used for fertilizer in the agricultural industry. Only a small percentage is used for technical production of resins, mainly based on melamine.
As urea is a pure chemical, the chemical properties of the product are not under discussion. The more important issue regarding the use of urea is the physical characteristics of the product. Granulated urea has excellent physical properties during handling and storage, even under challenging conditions.
One of its most critical properties is the crushing strength of the granule. The granules are exposed to high mechanical forces during transport from the storage to the farmer – as well as in the agricultural spreading machines of the farmers. The farmer tends to use spreading machines with a working spread width of 48 m. Even under these conditions the granules must not degrade to dust.
