    HP synthesis equipment

When it comes to high-pressure synthesis equipment, Stamicarbon is unequalled in the urea industry with an outstanding track record.

The design and fabrication of the high-pressure synthesis is the most important part of any new urea plant - and replacement of equipment is even more critical, given their design constraints and the need for minimal downtime. Our Equipment Supply services combine design and engineering competences with our in-depth knowledge of the fabrication process.

The result: A very efficient delivery of high quality reactors, heat exchangers, piping and valves. Our project management team provides comprehensive support and orchestrates all the details - including liaison with hand-chosen equipment fabricators. That includes our strategic partnership with Sandvik, the leading stainless steel manufacturer and co-developer of the Safurex® material. It means that customers turn to us in particular when faced with time-critical or complex challenges such as the need for on-site assembly of equipment because of transportation limits.

HP Stripper

In the high-pressure stripper, the carbon dioxide, entering the synthesis as a feed, flows counter-current to the urea solution leaving the reactor. On the shell side, the high-pressure stripper is heated with steam. The off-gas of the high-pressure stripper, containing the carbon dioxide, together with the dissociated carbamate, is then fed into the pool condenser.

Pool condenser

The pool condenser design is based on ammonia and carbon dioxide being condensed to form carbamate in a pool of liquid - where at the same time a substantial part of the conversion to urea takes place.

HP scrubber

The high pressure scrubber is designed to minimize the emissions from the synthesis section. Here the offgass from the synthesis section is washed with the carbamate solution from the low-pressure recirculation stage.

HP carbamate condenser

The carbamate solution from the HP scrubber is transferred with the HP ejector to the HP carbamate condenser or Pool condenser. The control and operation of the HP ejector can be checked by the temperatures at the in- and outlet of the ejector. A too low carbamate solution level in the suction line of the HP ejector can result in gas slipping through from the HP scrubber into the discharge line of the HP ejector resulting in a higher temperature of the outlet mixture.
