Stamicarbon to provide License and Process Design Package for ammonia-urea facility in Abu Dhabi, UAE

November 5, 2009

Rome, Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. announces that its recently acquired subsidiary Stamicarbon, the world market leader in licensing urea technology, will provide Ruwais Fertilizer Industries ("Fertil") the license and Process Design Package to realize an ammonia - urea facility with a urea capacity of 3500 tons per day (1.2 million tons per year) at a site near Ruwais, 250 km West of Abu Dhabi.

The Fertil project foresees that Stamicarbon will provide the urea melt plant with a number of trademark elements, including a Pool Condenser and Safurex® stainless steel, and will equip the plant with additional features in order to minimize emissions, thereby setting a new benchmark in environmental respect.

The new plant is expected to start production in January 2013 and will be the second commissioned by Fertil in this area. The first one, also licensed and designed by Stamicarbon, was commissioned in 1983.

Thanks to this new urea plant, Stamicarbon consolidates its strong position as a leading urea licensor in the Middle East and it continues its excellent and valuable cooperation with Fertil.
