Sittard, July 9, 2010- Stamicarbon, the licensing and IP Center of Maire Tecnimont, announces to have been awarded a contract for the license of a 3600 mtpd Urea Plant in Brazil, to Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras). The project foresees the provision of the license, process design and related services for the grass roots urea plant in Tres Lagoas, Brazil, that will use Stamicarbon's Urea 2000plus™ Technology and Safurex® stainless steel. The commissioning is scheduled for 2014.

The new plant will be the second Stamicarbon urea plant in Brazil. The first plant (not operated by Petrobras), was commissioned in the early 1980's. Since then, demand for urea in Brazil has vastly increased, leaving the country deficient in self-supply and hence dependent on substantial imports of the world's most used fertilizer. The new plant aims at providing a substantial ease in that situation. Stamicarbon is delighted to help out in fulfilling Brazil's supply needs, and it looks forward to an excellent and valuable cooperation with Petrobras.
