Yara Belle Plaine commissions Stamicarbon's urea Mega Technology at 3450 mtpd

December 9, 2009

Large scale production does not always have to come from new built plants:

Yara Belle Plain Canada announced in November that it has successfully completed the commissioning and performance test of the revamp of its urea plant (which was formerly owned by Saskferco). The revamp towards a urea capacity of 3450 mtpd is based on Stamicarbon's Mega Technology, allowing for capacity increases of 30 to 40%.

This is Stamicarbon's fourth revamp using Mega Technology and the biggest in scale so far. However, Mega Technology is also suited for truly mega capacities such as 5000 mtpd, which could be reached by revamping plants with a design capacity of 3500 mtpd.

It is the second time that the Yara Belle Plain plant was revamped; the plant had earlier been revamped from 2000 to 2850 mtpd already. Yara has informed Stamicarbon that it is very happy with the revamped plant, which appears very easy to operate with all equipment items more than adequate for the duty. With the current capacity more than 70% higher than the original design capacity, Yara finds the plant very stable and very easier to operate.

Stamicarbon congratulates Yara with this great milestone in urea engineering.
