The MEGA urea plant concept is now reality at SKW Piesteritz, Germany

The Medium-Pressure Add-on Debottlenecking Technology, as developed by Stamicarbon, paves the way for single line large-scale urea plants up to 5000 metric tons per day.

The urea plant at SKW Piesteritz is the very first plant at which this Technology has been successfully implemented. By applying this Technology, the urea plant is revamped from the original level of 1050 metric tons per day to over 1500 metric tons per day. Chemoprojekt executed the Engineering, Procurement and Construction part with the support of SKW Piesteritz. The project was kicked off in March 2003 and the revamped urea plant was successfully started in September 2004. Since that time it has been running smoothly.

The success of this revamp project proves that the application of this Technology in combination with the proven Urea 2000plusTM Pool condensor Technology is able to raise plant capacities of grass root urea plants to greater heights. Consequently, because of the economy of scale, the investment cost per ton of produced product is reduced significantly.
