New 3500 mtpd Urea plant for Yara Sluiskil The Netherlands

Norwegian Yara International has announced that Yara Sluiskil B.V. is to build a new 3500 tons per day urea solution plant in Sluiskil in The Netherlands. Stamicarbon will provide the license and Process Design Package for this project.

Uhde GmbH has been contracted to build the plant, which is going to replace two older urea plants and at the same time increase the urea capacity at the site, utilizing available access ammonia capacity. Apart from Stamicarbon’s trademark elements featuring a Pool Condenser and Safurex® stainless steel, particular care is being taken to minimize emissions further than to standard level. The plant is going to rank amongst the largest and most efficient in the world. It will serve markets more diverse than just for urea fertilizer; one example being the fast growing market for Ad Blue, involving NO x reduction in engine discharge gases. The urea plant is expected to start production in June 2011.

It is a rare event that a plant like this is built in Europe. Cost efficient design while meeting the strictest standards has been elemental in realizing this project. Stamicarbon looks forward to continue its excellent and valuable cooperation with Yara this way.
