The Stamicarbon partial-recycle CO2 stripping process is ideal for the manufacture of Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN) solutions.
Because of the ratio of unconverted ammonia to urea it's possible to produce a ratio of urea to ammonium nitrate that enables the direct production of UAN solutions. We convert ammonia still found in the stripped urea solution - together with the ammonia in the reactor's off-gases - into ammonium nitrate in a neutralization section using nitric acid. UAN solution is then made by mixing the urea and ammonium nitrate solutions together.
