    Urea-melamine integration

Urea provides the feedstock for all melamine-producing plants.

The highest degree of urea-to-melamine conversion in this process is only 50% - which means half of all the urea fed to a melamine plant is decomposed back to its original components (ammonia and CO2), creating a huge waste stream. By concentrating the ammonia and CO2 in the waste stream and integrating this stream in the feedstock to a urea plant, Stamicarbon was the first company to effectively cope with the problem.

The unit designed for this job is today known as the Carbamate Concentration Unit (CCU). Urea and melamine plants - including CCUs - are designed by Stamicarbon and built worldwide. By using our unique knowledge of both urea and melamine, we can find and implement the most effective solution for any type of coupling between a new or existing urea and melamine plant.
