  Stamicarbon's Partial-Recycle UAN process

Introduction

The Stamicarbon partial-recycle CO2 stripping urea process based on the Urea 2000plus™ concept is eminently suitable for the manufacture of urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) solutions.
The ratio of unconverted ammonia to urea is such that the required ratio between urea and ammonium nitrate for the production of UAN solutions can be achieved directly.
Ammonia still present in the stripped urea solution together with the ammonia in the reactor off-gases is converted into ammonium nitrate in a neutralization reactor, using nitric acid.

UAN solution product is obtained by mixing the urea and ammonium nitrate solutions. A commonly used nitrogen concentration of 32% by weight can be realized in the process sequence described. Document includes consumption figures and references.
