Ricco Fiorito (Cooloo) wins Marc Cornelissen Brightlands Award
Stamicarbon congratulates Ricco Fiorito of Cooloo, winner of the Marc Cornelissen Brightlands Award.
The 2022 edition of the Award was held yesterday at the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen. The Award, co-sponsored by Stamicarbon, is intended for candidates who, in the spirit of Marc Cornelissen, are on their way to making an innovative contribution to accelerating the circular transition for a future-proof society.
Six candidates were shortlisted and after intense scrutiny and deliberations, Ricco Fiorito (Cooloo) was announced as the winner. Cooloo, a circular developer, has a mission to internationally connect producers, waste materials, designers, products, and markets to close the circle towards a circular economy.

Towards circularity in the furniture industry
Cooloo came up with a concept and is now developing a technology to make production in the (furniture) industry more sustainable and with a lot less waste. Cooloo believes that furniture is difficult to repair or refurbish these days. Using a combination of modeling techniques, the Cooloo concept creates furniture from one single piece. Upholstery is then applied by spraying it onto the piece. Cooloo wants to share this concept with the industry and encourage production that uses circular techniques. The company also wants to partner with NGOs to implement this concept in developing countries.
