Student Transition Enhancement Project is underway in Yobe State, Nigeria

The winner of last year’s Ideas-to-Reality competition, the Student Transition Enhancement Project (S.T.E.P), is turning their idea into reality by supporting the educational transition of schoolchildren in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria.

This project was initiated to help schoolchildren transition from primary to secondary school in one of Nigeria’s most economically challenged states affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, where the number of out-of-school children is high. The project specifically targets girls, children with disabilities, orphans and children from under-resourced families.

S.T.E.P is funded by Stamicarbon and organized and implemented by the Humanitarian Network for Northern Nigeria (HNNN). As part of this project, 86 selected schoolchildren received lessons and mentoring over the course of a month, with 30 students successfully passing two examinations and being assigned to one of the six private partner schools in the area. These students have received a scholarship covering 50% of their tuition fees for 6 years.

“It has been some months of serious engagements and impacts. On behalf of all of us at HNNN, our beneficiaries and their parents, we are saying a big thank you to Stamicarbon,” said Bukar Mohammed Atiyaye, the Executive Director at HNNN.

Stamicarbon’s Ideas-to-Reality initiative activates ideas that can help make a difference. From Uganda to India and to Nigeria, these ideas have left a lasting impact on the communities where they became a reality.
