Experiences with MicroMist™ and Jet Venturi scrubbing systems
Analysis of the operational aspects of the first on-stream MicroMist™ Venturi Scrubbers in granulation plants, the modifications and improvements applied during start-up, and of the possible future improvements in relation to lay-out and internals of the scrubbing system. Presentation of the conducted pilot tests and conceptual design development for the Jet Venturi Scrubber for prilling plants.

Worldwide, fine particulate emission regulations are becoming increasingly strict. In response to this, Stamicarbon and EnviroCare International have co-developed the MicroMist™ Venturi Scrubber, a multi-stage gas scrubber for granulators, and Jet Venturi scrubber for prilling towers. These innovative, high-performance scrubbers do not only remove coarse urea particles, but especially submicron urea dust at extremely high efficiencies.
Based on the initial real-plant experiences with MicroMist™ Venturi Scrubbers and plant tests conducted with Jet Venturi Scrubber it is possible to conclude that Stamicarbon’s innovative emission technologies can allow plant owners to exceed the requirements of the most stringent environmental regulations, ensuring sustainable plant operations for the next decades. These scrubbing technologies can also be used for revamping existing granulation scrubbers and prilling plants to the latest environmental standards for urea dust and ammonia.
This paper analyzes the operational aspects of the first on-stream MicroMist™ Venturi Scrubbers. The modifications and improvements applied during start-up compared to the design are cautiously evaluated. Possible future improvements in relation to lay-out and internals of the scrubbing system are explored. Moreover, conducted pilot tests and conceptual design development for the Jet Venturi Scrubber are disclosed.
About Branislav Manic
Mr. Manic received his Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Belgrade in 2006 and Professional Doctorate degree in Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in 2010.
From 2007 to 2008 he was working in process operations at rubber goods manufacturer Tigar (Serbia). In 2011 he started at SABIC Europe in The Netherlands as a Process Engineer, where he was working on improving production processes of polypropylene and low density polyethylene.
Branislav joined Stamicarbon in 2014 as Urea Process Engineer focused on developing finishing technologies and related design packages.
