The Challenge

The Software Development department is part of the Business Line Innovation of Stamicarbon. The department is responsible for the development of STAMI Digital Products and Services for high-fidelity Operator Training Simulator (OTS) and Process Simulators. Mainly for the process industry including, the oil and gas, petrochemical, energy and specialty chemicals sector, and in particular for all Stamicarbon licensed and herewith related Syngas technologies as well as for Maire Tecnimont Group technologies and projects. The department works closely together with the (Digital) Projects department.

Currently we have a vacancy for the position of (Technical) Software Developer (UX)

You will be working in an enthusiastic department with 12 colleagues. Each (scope within a) product is developed / maintained by a dedicated product team in the department, following a SCRUM methodology. Due to the sizes of these teams each developer has a lot of responsibility for the entire development cycle (requirements, design, development, testing & deployment). The product teams and other digital innovation initiatives in the company are supported by a Platform Engineering team within your department, e.g. for CI / CD, development tools and (Azure) cloud deployments. There is a product owner that manages the software product backlogs, streamlines the SCRUM processes and acts as a linking pin to the commercial roadmap in the business lines. You will be reporting to the Manager Software Development, who is end-responsible for the technical roadmap (aligned with commercial roadmap) and the overall software quality and development process.

You will be part of the product team that develops and maintains our proprietary software suite for Operator Training Simulators (OTS). Some programs of this suite are used by the (Digital) Projects department as an IDE for developing OTS applications, other programs are used by our customers’ end users as a runtime environment for these OTS applications. The software is undergoing a massive architectural change where all the technology is renewed by the state-of-the-art and everything that is not core business is replaced by third party tooling and libraries. We are making the sources as lean and maintainable as possible and we are heavily investing in continuous improvement (e.g. automated testing, automated refactoring).

The key activities are:
• The realization of new features for the software, with focus on the new user interface, to be built from scratch with state-of-the-art technology;
• Redesigning and migrating the (currently) desktop-based software into a cloud-first solution for our customers’ end users;
• Further optimizing the CI / CD process and the testability of the software and integrating this with the OTS applications developed by the (Digital) Projects department.

Our team works from the office at least 1 day a week, and the rest of the week you can work from home, if the job at hand allows it.
